review of Radical Cataloging

There's a favorable review of Radical Cataloging: Essays at the Front, edited by former UGAer K.R. Roberto; introduction by Sanford Berman, with a tiny sliver of a essay by me, and another essay Beth Thornton Serials Cataloger at UGA:
As reviewer Douglas King (UC Santa Barbara) notes, it "restate[s] principles and provide[s] innovative examples of user-focused bibliographic access, expressed with wit, humor, feistiness, and occasional brilliance."

free art event, inexpensive artwork (Mental Health Art Auction)

Honestly, I have seen some really spectacular pieces go for 20$. I will have 2 pieces in this auction -- at least one painting, although I haven't quite decided what to donate yet.

The 19th Annual Mental Health Art Auction is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31 at 6 pm
at Cine. There is no charge to attend the auction.

Lots of other events besides the Art Auction, too, and if you know of artists who might participate, please pass along the info.

---------
We're getting ready for the 19th Annual Mental Health Art Auction on Saturday, January 31, at 6 pm at Cine in downtown Athens. We're in need of more art for the event. If you have not done so already, I humbly ask that you consider contributing a piece or two to the event.

The funds raised support our work of educating the public about mental illness and advocating for those who have mental illness. It also enables us to continue to host a weekly Social Club for those who suffer from mental illness.
Also, there will be an Artists' Reception on Sunday, January 25 at Cine
from 2 to 4 in the afternoon.

If you would like to donate your art, you can drop your donations off at any of the four Athens Art & Frame locations:

553 Prince Avenue
Monday to Friday 10 am to 5:30 pm, Saturday 10 am to 2 pm

351 East Clayton Street
Monday to Friday 10 am to 6 pm, Saturday 10 am to 5 pm

1285 Cedar Shoals Drive
Monday to Friday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, Saturday 10 am to 4 pm

2061 Experiment Station Road (Oconee)
Monday to Friday 10 am to 6 pm, Saturday 10 am to 5 pm

There's a little form to complete so we can share your website or email with those who like your art and are interested in buying more.
Thank you for your support of Mental Health America of Northeast Georgia.
If you have any questions, call the director (Eddie) @ 770-633-3513

PS:
In addition to the Art Auction, we have a great movie "In a Dream" at Cine on Tuesday and Thursday (January 27 & 29) at 7 pm both nights. This is the story of a Philadelphia mosaic creator and the issues he faces when
his son makes a documentary about the artist's life.

PPS:
And our friends FIVE EIGHT play at 40Watt for us on Friday, January 30. They have A Hope foragoldensummer and Vigilantes of Love on the bill as well! It will be a great show! (Starts at 9 pm)

How cool is this? I'd love to go, but I don't have enough travel money and I am swamped with work, freelance, & committee stuff at the mo -- intense xhtml/css training at the end of the month, too. of course, if someone paid my way, I'd find the time, ya know. ;-)

Saturday, January 10, 2009

I swear I will get caught up one day...

okay, working away on: work stuff, freelance stuff, fitting in some art stuff, lots of video shot by my niece at disney, lots, lots, lots...

Posting by email with wordpress and blogger

SO, one of the things I love to do is post by email to blogs (call it laziness, if you want!).

POSTING TO BLOGGER VIA EMAIL

Blogger makes this incredibly easy and does most of the work for you.

Under Settings> Email
In the Mail to Blogger Address, choose an email address you would like to use.

You can also chose if you want to publish or keep them as drafts (for review and publication later).

Now to email a post to blogger from your email client:

In the To: type in the complete name of Mailto-Blogger-Address field. Format exactly as it appears, with the periods and including both the login name, what you typed in the box and the blogger.com, e.g., if your login is mrsmithy, and you used blogme in the box, then your would send an email to
mrsmity.blogme@blogger.com

In the subject of your email, type the title of your soon to be published blog post.
In the body of your email type the post. If you use an email program with html capabilities (links, etc.) blogger should be able to post those correctly.

Make sure to remove any signatures, if you do not want to include those in your posts.

Click send.

Voila! Done!

POSTING TO WORDPRESS VIA EMAIL
To post by email to wordpress, you first need an email mailbox for wordpress. If you use your regular email box, everything sent to your mailbox will be posted to your blog -- oops!

>Create a new email just for wordpress

..and then follow these instructions from wp. It is not quite as easy as blogger, but still doable.
