Teaching visual (multimedia) literacy from George Lucas

This is fascinating - comparing grammar to art. "Nobody teaches anybody about what perspective is. Color is... those are the rules, grammatical rules that appear in an art class"

The interview with Lucas was highly edited, because in the unedited version he does acknowledge that ART educators teach those concepts.

thanks for your comments! I did notice that it was edited, so I will go back and look for the unedited version. It does seem that in many schools (certainly not ALL), the arts are poorly funded to begin with and any kind of support for literacy efforts or fundamentals is very limited. I do know many great arts educators, but I also have friends and colleagues who once taught art or music, whose teaching now primarily encompasses other subjects.
