Are you using View As public? You have to also set your privacy settings, too. So, it's actually a 2 part step - you privacy settings have to be cranked down and then you can hide individual items.
Okay. So I chose some of my friends for "View as" and this is what happened. My main page did actually keep my "Likes" private but total number of likes say 50 were not hidden!
So what I mean is after keeping likes privacy to "Only Me" the "View as" option just grayed out my likes but still shows total number of them!
And later when I chose those grayed out likes...it all showed up!
Like this:
First "View as" then chose "grayed out Likes" then went in there and than chose different years to see likes!
So, the number of likes show up but not the actual likes? I do not know that you can control the actual number of likes just what they are. Also, you may want to take a look at your overall privacy settings - those will impact what your friends can see. My steps worked when I tried it, but it's also possible facebook has changed something since this post was written. It wouldn't be the first time.
Also remember, you can always "unlike" something if you really don't want people to see it.
...and finally, in your settings you can control how far back timeline is available to your friends/network. I will do a post about that soon. I scraped my timeline down to nothing except the sunflower pic. ;-)
